Childhood Faith -- A painting of a praying little girl with Christ as the Lamb

I have had two fantastic exhibitions! I was invited by Bilda and Sändaren to be part of an exhibition on the theme Faith. I've avoided painting religious images, as it is very difficult to make them justice. "Faith" is a concept that is depictable in symbolic ways, or in more concrete ones by showing people in some act of faith.

In this painting, the little girl is saying her bedtime prayers with the ernest faith of a child. She's not physically aware of the presence of the Christ, but He is fully aware of her, and watches lovingly over her. The main subject is the relationship between a person and her (or his) Saviour. In a way, it is the 'space' between them that is the subject, as it is there we find the relation (or within hearts). The Lamb emits an otherwordly light (Lumen de Lumine -- Light of Light) which falls like a blessing on the child, indicating that faith is also a gift.

I wanted to depict the sweetness of faith, as a counterpoint to more painful aspects of it.

I've moved the painting to my current exhibition, which ends on Monday.

Charlie, this is beautiful! I'm not a huge fan of inspirational art - but this one is so, unobtrusive, and beautiful. You've captured the feeling of peace and.. well.. faith. It is wonderful!

Hej Charlie-
On receiving notification of your upcoming vernissage, I decided to visit your blog site for the first time (finally!) and I'm really enjoying reading about your artistic process, and viewing both your newer and older works- doing this is giving me not only a better perspective on your artwork- it's also providing me with a wistful retrospective on
"Paul and Jan's Amazing Adventure"- our three years living in the heart of Stockholm!

Being the proud owner of this particular much-loved painting, I really enjoyed reading the thoughts and inspirations that led to the creation of this precious piece of artwork.

All the best- lycka till on your vernissage- wish I could be there!

Hey guys, thank you. For a while, I didn't get notificactions when someone commented, so Pam and Betsy, I apologize for not having responded before.

Jan! Hi! I'll write you a letter, but for now, thank you for giving the little girl a new home. This is so interesting with visual art, the artist has a thought or two when creating it, and then the viewer has their interpretation -- and they may coincide, or they may differ greatly. This dialogue is exciting!
