Green Grass of Home, pastel landscape by Charlotte Herczfeld

Green Grass of Home
Green Grass of Home
Sometimes, summer can be very green. Trees are green, grass is green, as in this painting of a parklike landscape. Could I keep intense greens, and still maintain a sense of depth in the landscape? The painting fought me, but I think I won in the end.

See the large version of the painting. It looks better there, more like the original than the very small picture in this blogpost.

You won, certainly. Lovely... the branches arching from the willows (?) ... wow. Perfect.

You definitely won. This is spectacular, it leads into the summer country of magic. The light in it is wonderful. Another moment of finite perfection. You make it look easy, thanks for reminding me that it's not always as easy as it looks even for you!

David, thank you! (Got no notice of your post, sorry for the delay.)

Rob, thanks! Oh, easy, eh? Sargent wiped out sections up to 20 times, and repainted, and repainted. The 'magic' is to make it *look* effortless... ;-)

I only said you made it LOOK easy, something like watching a virtuoso play Mozart or Bach! Not that it WAS easy! lol
